Edinburgh based iFieldnotes is the only startup reaching final of UK ‘Noise Oscars’

Updated: Oct 19

A little PR ahead of the award ceremony

We were honoured to attend the John Connell Awards as finalists for the Innovation Award at the Palace of Westminster on 16th October 2024. Although our app, iFieldnotes, did not take home a trophy, we were thrilled to have been shortlisted, especially as a self-funded start-up introduced to the industry only recently. It was an honour to be recognised alongside three other high-quality projects by established organisations.

The shortlisted projects were:

  • 'Putting Noise on the Map' by the UK Health Security Agency & Colleagues - Winner;

  • 'Project CAELUS: Quiet(er) Drones and Medical Delivery Trials' by Arup - Highly commended;

  • 'Aligning Acoustic and Thermal Models' by Peninsular Acoustics and Apex Acoustics; and

  • 'AI-Powered Field Note-Taking App' by iFieldnotes.

During the ceremony, Prof David Waddington, the newly appointed President of the Institute of Acoustics, commented: “I'm thrilled to see companies like iFieldnotes exploring the potential of AI in acoustics. Their work aligns with our shared commitment to driving innovation and sustainable development in the field. The application of AI in the acoustics industry is inevitable. While current products are a promising start, I believe there's an opportunity to further enhance the capabilities of AI tools for Acousticians. By doing so, iFieldnotes can make a more significant contribution to addressing the complex acoustic challenges we face today, ultimately improving quality of life for communities worldwide.”
