Lecture at Edinburgh Napier University on Innovations in the Era of GenAI and the Development of iFieldnotes

This Wednesday, I had the great pleasure of returning to Edinburgh Napier University to share my thoughts on innovations in the AI era and the development of iFieldnotes, an AI-powered field note-taking app for engineers. Reflecting on this journey, I revisited several key attempts to create innovative products. My first project began right here at Napier, under the guidance of my PhD supervisor, Prof. Sean Smith, resulting in a patented acoustic hanger. Fifteen years later, my passion for innovation is as strong as ever, leading to the creation of iFieldnotes.

iFieldnotes showcases AI’s potential to streamline field note-taking, addressing longstanding challenges that engineers face in complex environments. The app allows users to conveniently create custom menus tailored to their unique needs. By leveraging OpenAI’s APIs, iFieldnotes intelligently extracts information from multimedia data, transcribes voice notes, and offers customisable templates, among other features.

The app is now available for open testing on the Google Play Store. You are invited to try it using the link on this webpage https://www.ifieldnotes.com/help, and we look forward to your feedback as we continuously work to enhance its performance. Suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated.
